Voya Financial Celebrates National Week of Service

Thursday, September 24, 2020

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Voya Financial, Inc. announced that it is celebrating its National Week of Service, an annual company-wide initiative designed to maximize the company’s commitment to make a meaningful difference in the communities in which its employees live and work. This is Voya’s seventh annual national service event. Taking into account the challenges that many communities faced this year, the National Day of Service was extended to a week and includes several virtual volunteer opportunities to provide Voya employees with more time and options to make an impact.

“Voya’s annual national service event is an incredible opportunity to witness our collective passion for our communities,” said Voya Financial Chairman and CEO Rodney O. Martin, Jr. “Our National Week of Service is just one way that Voya employees bring our core value of caring to life. It is embedded in the DNA of our culture all year long, however, during this week, we are collectively making our biggest impact together across the U.S.”

During its National Week of Service, Voya employees plan and organize volunteer activities geared toward the needs of their local communities. These include working with nonprofit partners to build homes, mentoring children and young adults in career advancement and financial literacy, and writing thoughtful notes to people who need it most. Employees choose activities that align with their individual passions and interests to support a range of local and national nonprofit organizations, including Operation Gratitude, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity and Souls4Soles.

“At Voya, we take pride in our exceptional track record for giving and volunteering,” said Angela D. Harrell, senior vice president, chief diversity & corporate responsibility officer, Voya Financial, and president, Voya Foundation. “This year, we realize our employees are facing personal challenges — whether it’s their own health concerns, caring for loved ones and/or being in unusual situations. Our employees’ commitment to giving back is something we work to nurture through providing opportunities for them to share their time and their treasure with nonprofits and their beneficiaries. Employees across the country have organized innovative events designed to enable our employees the chance to continue supporting our communities — virtually in most instances — when they are most in need.”

Voya’s first National Day of Service was held in 2014 and employee participation has increased steadily each year. In 2019, employees set a new record with 63% employee participation. In total, Voya employees benefited more than 200 nonprofits during the 12,000 hours volunteered.

Voya Employees consistently contribute time, talent and financial support to better their communities. Voya provides full-time employees with 40 hours of paid volunteer time each year and $5,000 in matching gifts for eligible nonprofits.
