Leading in Financial Services: Voya Joins the RE100
In 2015, Voya Financial joined the RE100, a global list of prominent companies that have pledged to source 100 percent of their electricity from renewable energy to reduce CO2 emissions and advance environmentally responsible business practices. Voya has purchased clean, emission-free wind energy credits equal to 100 percent of its electricity usage since 2007 and therefore has met its RE100 goal.
Led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), the RE100 campaign aims to engage, support and showcase influential businesses committed to 100 percent renewable electricity. The initiative launched at Climate Week NYC 2014 has continued to gather momentum and is now being rolled out in India and China in addition to Europe and the US.
“Joining the RE100 is a testament to Voya’s established track record of purchasing renewable energy and minimizing our ecological footprint through responsible business practices,”said Chairman and CEO Rod Martin. “We believe that efforts like these are not only good for the environment, but that they also contribute to a positive culture that attracts employees, partners and customers — and supports a company’s bottom line.”
Voya is the First Corporation to Partner with Creative Chatter
In 2015, Voya forged a unique relationship with Creative Chatter, a program that fosters both environmental sustainability and investment in communities through an online platform. Creative Chatter matches individuals’ donated items with nonprofit organizations that have a need for those items.
In one instance, a donation from a Voya employee benefited a family in Jacksonville when a need for bunk beds was matched online with the Daniel Foundation. The oldest child-advocacy organization in Florida, the Daniel Foundation serves nearly 2,000 local abused, abandoned and neglected children, as well as at-risk families.
“We here at Daniel are truly grateful for the opportunity to work together with Creative Chatter and Voya to help improve the lives of children and families,” said Jason Henika of the Daniel Foundation. “The donation of bunk beds from a Voya employee gave children in need a warm place to sleep. Voya’s support helps further our goal of making a positive difference in our community.”
To date, Voya employees have made 50 in-kind donations at a value of more than $26,000.
