James Nichols leads the Customer Solutions Group for Voya Financial, which helps Americans plan, invest and protect their savings — to get ready to retire better. Specifically, this includes serving the financial needs of approximately 13 million individual and institutional customers in the United States.
In his role, Nichols leads Voya’s efforts to provide a holistic approach to help customers achieve retirement readiness and financial wellness at every stage of life through Voya’s broad range of retirement, insurance, annuity and investment products, services and tools.
With more than 20 years in financial services, Nichols brings deep knowledge of the industry. Most recently, he led Advice Strategy for Voya’s Retirement business, overseeing the quality and consistency of Voya’s advisory platform to meet the evolving needs of Voya Retirement’s institutional clients and individual customers. Nichols was also instrumental in developing Voya's retirement income strategy, which seeks to provide retirement income and advice solutions for all Americans.
Before joining the company, Nichols served as senior managing director, head of Advice & Planning for TIAA-CREF where he led a team responsible for designing, building and implementing the advice platform for the firm. In addition to TIAA-CREF, Nichols held leadership roles at Accenture, as part of the Capital Markets practice, where he worked for a variety of financial service firms worldwide and led the Global Wealth Management product strategy.
Nichols received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Duke University and holds FINRA Series 7, 24, 63 and 65 licenses.
