Voya was the recipient of a 2020 EPEAT Purchaser Award from the Green Electronics Council in recognition of the company’s top rating for environmentally friendly technology purchasing. The EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) program confirmed that 100 percent of Voya’s personal computers and display monitors purchased in 2019 were gold-rated products. In 2020, Voya earned three stars, indicating each product category in which the company met all of the EPEAT eligibility requirements: computers and displays; imaging equipment; and televisions. This is Voya’s third consecutive year as an EPEAT Purchaser Award recipient, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable purchasing, use and disposal of IT equipment.

The definitive, comprehensive global “eco-label” for greener electronics, EPEAT is designed to help purchasers evaluate, compare and select environmentally preferable products. Voya achieved a gold rating for the more than 2,816 laptops and 2,011 monitors purchased in 2019. This recognition demonstrates not only environmental benefits, but also financial ones, saving more than $118,876 in energy and waste removal costs over the life of these products. The EPEAT product-rating system allows us to credibly and effectively identify products that are responsibly designed and produced, which reinforces our dedication to minimizing the impacts that our business operations have on the environment.

Leading in financial services: Voya joins the RE100

In 2015, Voya Financial joined the RE100, a global list of prominent companies that have pledged to source 100 percent of their electricity from renewable energy to reduce CO2 emissions and advance environmentally responsible business practices. Voya has purchased clean, emission-free wind energy credits equal to 100 percent of its electricity usage since 2007 and, therefore, has met its RE100 goal.

Led by The Climate Group (opens new window) in partnership with CDP (opens new window) (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), the RE100 campaign aims to engage, support and showcase influential businesses committed to 100 percent renewable electricity. The initiative, launched at Climate Week NYC 2014, has continued to gather momentum and is now being rolled out in India and China in addition to Europe and the U.S.
