Alain Karaoglan is chief operating officer (COO), as well as chief executive officer (CEO) of Retirement and Investment Solutions, for Voya Financial. As COO, Karaoglan is responsible for the development and implementation of Voya’s overall corporate strategy, as well as operations strategy and execution. In this role, he also oversees Investor Relations, Brand Marketing, and Information Technology. In April 2015, Karaoglan was also named CEO, Retirement and Investment Solutions, with oversight of the company’s Retirement, Annuities and Investment Management businesses. In this role, he is focused on more closely aligning Retirement and Investment Management to support Voya’s growth strategy and the company’s focus on becoming more customer-centric.
Karaoglan has been a key driver of Voya’s transformation and value creation leading up to and following its initial public offering in May 2013. Under his leadership, Voya has completed a number of cultural, operational, and financial improvements that have driven greater value for the company’s stakeholders.
Karaoglan joined Voya as executive vice president, Strategy and Finance in April 2011. Prior to joining the company, he was senior vice president, Divestiture, for AIG. He joined AIG at a critical time during AIG’s global restructuring. Spearheading the Divestiture team, he managed over 40 transactions, including the IPO of AIA, a pan-Asian life insurance company, and the sale of Alico (American Life Insurance Company) to MetLife. Karaoglan has more than 25 years in investment banking, equity research, and corporate experience.
Prior to AIG, Karaoglan was managing director, Equity Research, for Banc of America Securities LLC. He was a team leader for Financial Services Equity Research, composed of 26 professionals covering investment banks, commercial banks, asset managers, consumer finance and REITs. For seven years prior, he was managing director, North American Equity Research, at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. Previously, he had transitioned into equity research at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette after being in investment banking for approximately 10 years at The First Boston Corporation and Bear Stearns, where he advised companies in corporate finance and M&A transactions.
Karaoglan received bachelor’s degrees, magna cum laude, in business administration and economics from Pepperdine University, and received his Master of Business Administration from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
